E. J. Young and Enthronement

July 30, 2008

In Appendix III of Volume I of his commentary on The Book of Isaiah, Edward J. Young looks at “The Festival of Enthronement” and interracts with Sigmund Mowinkel and von Rad and I must confess I find his objections wanting. As I demonstrated in “Yahweh is king!” the kingship of Yahweh was celebrated at the feast of Tabernacles and the Psalms that celebrate the enthronement of Yahweh are obviously linked to this annual festival. Ultimately then, the Sitz im Leben of the enthronement Psalms must be an enthronement festival at the feast of Tabernacles.
